GS and GSA Service

In 1972, with the introduction of the GS Break, Citroën introduced two new versions of the GS. They where the GS Service Vitree and GS Service Tolee. Two van version of the GS Break. Both where designed for the commercial market.

Both cars had no rearseats, and no reardoors. Hereby creating lots of cargo space for carrying goods. The GS Service tolee had closed rear windows, the place where the reardoor windows and the luggage space windows of the Break where, was filled with a single steel plate. The GS service Vitree didn't have closed windows, but had a single window from behind the driver and passenger door (on both sides) untill the rearside of the car.

Nowadays these types of GS are extremly rare. The reason for that is that there where not a lot of these cars sold. Since the market was considerably smaller then the market for normal GSses. Also most of the cars where sold as company cars, most company cars have a shorter endurance because of there more intense usage then passenger cars. Of the two types GS Service the Vitree is the most rare GS, since that was sold in a less amount than the Tolee. The Vitree was taken out of production around 1975, so it exists only as type-1 GS. The Tolee lasted untill the end of the GS range in 1979 and was later available as GSA. Only now it was called GS(A) Service instead of GS Service Tolee. There is one exception to this, in Denmark GSs (and GSAs) built after 1975 where also equiped with rearwindows. However it is not clear wheather they had 1 (long) or 2 rear side windows. In other countries the Service was only available as closed version, however some where self-equiped with side windows. A GS Service Vitree is nowadays one of the most exclusive GSs. I know only of a handfull that still exist. And I have ever seen only 1 myself. And that was my Dad's one, which was totaled in 1978.

The trim levels, aswell as the engines seem to go along with the GS Break standards. Both cars where available as Confort and Club. Aswell the 1015cc engine as the 1222cc engine was used. Later on the 1130cc engine replaced the 1015cc. Around 1983 the 1130cc engine was at it's turn replaced but the 1299cc engine. In 1987 the production of the GSA service ended.
