East Germany
In the beginning of the 1980s, between 1980 and 183 some GSAs where imported to East Germany. Although not on a great scale,
it was not uncommon to import some western cars in the former communist country. The main reason was to get the street picture of
Berlin to look more international. There where in total 5.500 GSAs imported and they where distributed by the IFA company, which also
was responsible for distributing Trabant and Wartburg (and Lada and other East European cars). All the cars which where imported had the Pallas trim level.
Of course a GSA was a valueable possesion in a land where most the cars where in license built old models of other manufacturers.
This also led to a price on the black market of aprox 70.000 GDR marks for a used car. Where the newprice of the car was 38.850 GDR marks. The GSA
also was the second most expensive "common" car you could buy in the GDR. The most expensive was the Volvo 244.
