My C4 VTR+

So I got a new job at a software company in 2005. One of the benefits was a lease car. I felt like a litle boy in a candystore when I could select a new car. At the time I did not have any children, so there was really no need for a big car. Although I took a testdrive in a C5 Phase II aswell I was tempted by the then almost new C4. The C4 being introduced in 2005 was a rather rare site back in the days.

A nice and fast sporty car even though it is a diesel. The acceleration is very good. Also extending the speed from 100 to higher speeds is really good. Control is nice and direct. The fixed airbag in the middle of the steering wheel gets used to enormously quickly. When around the block you don't even notice it anymore.

Richly equipped and great options such as sports upholstery, leather steering wheel, 17-inch wheels, cruise control can be operated from the steering wheel. In terms of space it is ok. But it is a lot smaller than my previous Xantia.

What I think is a pity are the incredibly wide tires (205/50). Wide tires on slippery roads cause the car to do something different than you do.

I also miss the hydraulic suspension. The conventinal suspension itself is good for a non-hydraulic suspension car. I have made several long journeys with this car. Also to Barcelona among other things. It is a fine car for long distance driving.

In terms of design, this is also a car that stands out. Both inside and outside I find it very beautiful. When I just owned it, I also received many positive responses to the car.

Fault in the emission sensor, solved by disconnecting the battery terminals. Panel on the D style released spontaniously. Has been replaced under warranty. The steering wheel was broken at 110.000 km and has been replaced.

Furthermore, some problems that have a different cause:

  • Once a windshield replaced when a stone cracked it.

  • Due to a collision, the rim and the wheel suspension on the passenger side have been replaced.

  • Also to a collision Entire rear, booth aswell as front bumper, headlight and bonnet replaced.

All in all I am very satisfied with my C4. It is used very intensively and sometimes has to work hard. Some weeks I drove it over 2000km. Washing the car sometimes stays in. Despite that there are hardly any problems.

150600km - I still like the drive in the C4. Very smoothly. Unfortunately, the end of the lease was coming in sight. I did have to look forward to something else. Probably not C4 because I was looking for more space. For a family with small children the Berline is on the small side of things. The booth of my GSA is much bigger. Unfortunately there is also no C4 Stationcar otherwise I would have taken it. Let's see if a C5 is feasible. I don't like a C4 Picasso.

161200km - Had the last service at the garage. Nothing special to mention, the C4 still drove like a train. Even in the cold periods there are no problems to report.

180000 km - End of Lease - 10-06-2009 - Due to the calculation of the contract mileage the car is returned to the leasing company. All in all very satisfied with this car. It is that I need more space, otherwise I would have chosen a C4 again.
