My BX19TGD Break

My BX19TGD Break

In May 2001 I bought my second BX. Because of the more kilometers I drove. I work 50 km from where I live, I was looking for a Diesel. When I saw this 19TGD Break in Vert trition at the local Citroen Garagist, I was sold. It had done a lot of kilometers 325.000 at the time, but was in a good technical condition. Lots of parts had been renewed by the previous owner , including a replacement engine. The 19TGD Break is a wunderfull car to drive, lots of room, smooth ride, low fuel usage and the excellent preformance, reliability and endurance of the famous PSA 1990cc diesel engine.

This BX really preformes well if you look at it from the value for money point. This way it is cheap to drive a lot kilometers. I never experienced any serious trouble with the BX. Expenses only covered maintance and some things you might expect by a car with such a lot of kilometers. I had to replace the altenator once, replaced the rear arm bearrings (a known weakness of the BX). Truly a very good preformance for this car.

The BX19TGD Break was equiped with electric font windows, but had no power steering. However this wasn’t something that you missed when driving the car. The rest of the equipment was fine.

My BX was kind of basic equiped when I bought it, so I adjusted a few things:

  • Fitted Wood set on the dash

  • BX Chic interiour with headrests on the rearseat from my old BX.

  • Fitted a BX 16v Steering Wheel.

  • Fitted a Front spoiler.

  • Fitted 14’ inch light alloy wheels.

  • Fitted Kenwood stereo with cd player.

  • Fitted yellow headlights.

So you might say, if you’re so pleased with this then why don’t you drive it anymore?

Good question, but well after two and half years and 70.000kms something else came by. My father was looking to trade in his Xantia Diesel for a Xantia Break HDI. And my brother just got his drivers license. So we decided to make a deal. Dad sold me his car, I sold my car to my brother and my Dad bought a Xantia.

We all had advances from this deal, dad had no trade in car for his Xantia Break Hdi, so he got a bonus from the garage, which he shared with me. I got a car with a known service history for the official market price (which was under the price garages might ask) plus half of dads no trade in bonus. And my brother got also a car with a known history which is a big advantage for a car in this level of the market (high kilometerage and low price) and he paid a fine price for it too. My brother is nowadays still driving this BX. To his complete satisfaction, he has now covered more than 400.000kms with it.
